Cayman Islands History and Heritage

Explore the Cayman Islands' enthralling history and diverse cultural landscape with this tour that offers you a unique blend of island traditions. Though politically linked to the United Kingdom, the islands pulse with a cosmopolitan culture, thanks to its population hailing from all corners of the globe.

Your cultural excursion begins at The Cayman Islands National Museum located in the heart of George Town, where you'll dive deep into the archipelago's storied maritime heritage. The museum's 9,500 artifacts give you a good glimpse into the natural, cultural, and seafaring history of this amazing region.

As the tour unfolds you'll meander through George Town, enjoying historical stops like the original George Town Post Office, established in 1889, the esteemed Cayman Island Parliament Building, the venerable Cayman Library, and the stately Government Administration Building. At Hero's Square, you'll be greeted by beautiful fountains, sculptures, and monuments - including the Wall of Honor - that commemorates the dedication of notable Caymanians.

Next, your excursion takes you to the storied Pedro St. James, or Pedro Castle, as it's affectionately known. A remnant from an era when simple thatched homes dotted the landscape, this 18th century grand structure was built with the help of Jamaican labor for one of the Cayman's founding families. Step inside to observe its walls adorned with authentic period furnishings and artifacts, and step back in time to the Caymans' formative years with a vivid 3D show that recreates the experiences of the islands' early inhabitants.

Conclude your experience with some free time to purchase a genuine Caymanian lunch, immersing your taste buds in the islands' culinary heritage (not included) or peruse for souvenirs. This tour is fantastic opportunity to pass through the layers of history and culture that shape the extraordinary Cayman Islands.
